RANDom Thoughts

RANDom thoughts: Sometimes I just need time to be creative and often that looks the same as doing nothing.

Last week I had somewhat of creativity breakdown. Maybe it had to do with being at my daughter’s and helping her out with my 3year old granddaughter. I have forgotten how much energy that involves! Maybe it is because I have taken on too much, not taking my own advice of knowing when to say no. Maybe it is because I have paralysis by analysis on some of the projects I am working on. Or maybe it is simply because I need some down time to do nothing but think.

Whatever the case is, last week I did not record a podcast or hold my weekly career cultivators live training. Actually, I did “do” a podcast but forgot to hit record, so it didn’t happen, right? When I realized my mistake, I was already at my daughter’s and simply did not have the bandwidth to rerecord. Therefore, I just checked out and sent an email to my team saying I was not doing another podcast for the entire summer! After a few days of completely focusing on my family, I am now ready to move forward and am in a much better place. Why did I have to panic to regain my control? Does this even happen to you? If so, what do you do.

Here are a few tips that work for me.

1. Acknowledge that you are overwhelmed and tired and need a break.

2. Give yourself grace and take the time you need to get refocused.

3. Write down all the items you are working on and prioritize them or better yet delete some of them.

4. Step away for a day or a week, whatever your schedule allows and just do nothing. Go for a walk, connect with nature, binge watch Netflix, workout more or differently, spend some time with friends and family.

Whatever you method of coping with stress or creativity blocks, there is no right or wrong one. Do what works for you and then move forward with new passion, energy, and commitment. WE. HAVE. GOT. THIS!

Remember, as my Grandfather always said, “Take time to stop and smell the roses”!

Until we meet again, take care.

I will discuss this topic more on FB live at my Career Cultivators site on Tuesday at 4:00. Join me there!

Also, check out this week’s podcast for more on this subject and more.
